Lighting the Diya: An Interview with Miss Juliet on Diwali

What is the most important lesson Diwali teaches?
Diwali symbolizes new beginnings, that there will always be victory over evil, light over darkness. It also emphasizes the importance of celebrating togetherness with family and friends. Lighting Diyas teaches us to be a source of hope, positivity, and kindness.

Which aspect of the Diwali celebration is most special to you?
I love the lighting of Diyas and setting off firecrackers! Exchanging gifts, sweets and  gathering with family and friends around delicious food is always a special part for me. The beautiful rangoli, dancing, and the joy it brings for new beginnings makes this holiday so beloved.

Is there a favorite decoration in your home for Diwali?
My favorite decoration is making paper lanterns and hanging them!

Do you have any childhood memories of celebrating Diwali in India?
My most cherished memories are waking up very early in the morning, wearing new clothes, making Rangoli in front of the house and lighting Diyas.
