Haiti - Harmony Ministries

The Haiti Initiative seeks to facilitate and support the ministry of Harmony Ministries and Pastor Luc Deratus to spread and live the Word of God to the people of Haiti. For over 45 years, Harmony Ministries has been bringing church services, education, medical services, and various support programs to people in the urban slums of Port-au-Prince as well as in remote villages. The ministry has grown from a single person with a vision and promise to God, to five churches and schools serving thousands of Haitians.

Haiti is a poor nation suffering from depleted resources, political instability, and lack of infrastructure. Despite these obstacles, many organizations bring hope and faith to the people of Haiti, working with local Haitians to build churches and schools and deliver needed food and services. Since 2009, Pinnacle Presbyterian Church has partnered with other U.S. churches to provide support to Harmony Ministries.

In 2010, a devastating earthquake destroyed much of Port-au-Prince and Leogane, including the Harmony churches and schools. For several years, the churches, schools, and all their programs operated in temporary facilities. But with our help, the rebuilt Port-au-Prince church was completed in 2015, the school in 2019, and the Leogane church and school in 2024. Today, in the midst of extreme civil unrest and gang violence, hundreds of people regularly worship in the Harmony Ministries churches, and hundreds of children attend the primary schools. The support of Pinnacle Presbyterian Church has been essential for reconstruction and help in providing effective and much-needed assistance, including food, medicines, teachers’ pay, and other critical needs.
