American Concert Music, a Century Old with Jonathan Lang and Guests

  • Pinnacle Presbyterian Church 25150 North Pima Road Scottsdale, AZ, 85255 United States (map)

Saturday, Feb. 28 | 4 pm | Sanctuary

Join us for an afternoon filled with music by Ferde Grofé, Amy Beach, George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, Florence Beatrice Price, as well as popular songs of the time. Delivered by piano virtuoso, Jonathan Lang, as well as a chamber orchestra, jazz ensemble, organ, and soloists, you will hear pieces from an era when classical composers living in the United States began to develop a new concert sound that we can recognize now, a hundred years later, as distinctly American. A sound that borrows from European art song and concerto, Afro-cuban rhythms and instruments, folk tunes heard from the mountains and valleys of Appalachia, and so many other traditions. FREE concert - no ticket required, donations welcome.
