It was truly an honor to be entrusted with the role of directing Vacation Bible School this year. Reflecting on this journey, I can confidently say it has been the most rewarding experience I have ever been tasked with in my life. The opportunity to lead such a meaningful program, which impacts children’s spiritual growth and brings our community together, was both humbling and exhilarating.
This year’s theme, STELLAR: Shine Jesus’ Light, perfectly captured the heart of VBS - helping children understand their unique place in God’s universe and encouraging them to shine brightly in their faith and everyday lives. Watching the children arrive on the first day, nervous and with eyes full of tears, and then seeing them leave on the last day confident, empowered, and loved, truly shows why this program matters so much. I am hopeful these children will continue to shine Jesus’ light in the years ahead.
My involvement with Pinnacle Presbyterian Church’s Vacation Bible School program goes back several years. I first joined my VBS journey as a second-grade volunteer. From there, I found myself drawn to leading the preschool group, as I was their Sunday School teacher and felt I knew them better. Each year, whether as a volunteer or a leader, I learned something new - not just about managing groups of children or organizing activities, but about patience, compassion, and the power of faith in a child’s life.
If someone had told me back in 2019 that six years later I would be entrusted with overseeing the entire VBS production, I would have laughed in disbelief. It seemed like such a distant and daunting responsibility. When I accepted the director role this past January, I didn’t fully understand the scope of the job or the challenges it would bring. However, as the months passed and I began to plan the curriculum, coordinate participants, volunteers, and logistics, I discovered a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment in this work.
Looking back, I am immensely grateful for every moment of this experience. It has strengthened my faith, expanded my abilities, and deepened my connection to our church community. Thank you to everyone who made this year’s VBS possible - the volunteers, parents, church staff, and especially the amazing kids. And a special shout-out to my mom, Kelly McGinn, who stood by my side throughout this entire experience and shows me every day what it truly means to lead with love.
