World Christianities: Each week we will explore the different ways that the Christian faith has taken shape and flourished among the world’s cultures and peoples. Encountering the faith of Christians of different cultures teaches about our own embrace of faith and how our culture has shaped the way we see Jesus and his Church.
Week 3: Christianity in Africa
Christianity came early to Africa, through Egypt and southward into Ethiopia. Although the Coptic and Orthodox churches still survive, and in places thrive, they now exist alongside “newer” forms of Christianity that came with European expansionism: Catholicism and Protestantism. The Christian churches in Africa have a powerful witness to offer the world on overcoming hardship with gratitude and koinonia.
